Reflection about the movie “The Joker”

(by Dr. Rodrigo Machado Tavares, aka, Dr. Rody Mac… “a bit of a joker like you and like all plebes on Earth in a way or another”… #reflection)

#TBT from last year 16 October 2019 Without being a spoiler for those who haven’t watched it yet, but this is a proper good movie! I watched it last week. Initially, during the first few minutes of the movie, it kind of reminded me “Taxi Driver” (by Martin Scorsese having Robert De Niro as the main character). The psychological aspect of the movie and the clever criticism of the way our societies are structured are already good reasons to watch it. Although it is a D.C. movie, you don’t have to like superheroes movies at all. Scorsese recently criticised the Marvel movies and I do agree with him. These Marvel movies are not “cinema” (I.e., art per se); they are entertainment where kids and Peter Pan syndrome adults like watching. I find them boring, despite some action scenes being attractive due to the special effects. I took my sons to watch most of them as they like Marvel movies (I was a D.C. kid though) and I had a nap in most of these movies.

This D.C. movie is beyond a D.C. movie. It is proper cinema (art). No special effects at all, only good acting and clever script. Joaquin Phoenix was great and I would bet he will be indicated for an Oscar. Robert de Niro would not have accepted acting on this movie if it was not a proper good stuff!

For the first time, I started to like the Joker. The underdog syndrome reflects that all of us ordinary people are a bit of a joker… some in a good and others in a bad way… How many jokers are out there in our societies? #ReflectionFromRod
