I woke up with this thought…
Let’s focus on love (Rodrigo Machado Tavares, 09th June 2020)
I have been following up all this madness we are currently facing and more particularly regarding the terrible murder of this poor man, George Floyd, in the USA. I have been reflecting about it and I would like to share some of my thoughts here and I will avoid to be political or religious/spiritual/philosophical… although it is pretty hard as these topics are all interconnected.
The way he was killed was terrible and no matter what he supposedly has done in the past or no matter of his true colours; this is irrelevant! He was killed cowardly and in a such barbaric way. Despicable! It is sad and revolting and I understand why so many people are angry/passionate about it (clearly I don’t agree with looting; vandalism and violence… these are not justifiable). And this could have happened in any nation. Racism does not only happen in the USA! It is everywhere. All nations, I mean ALL nations have racism in different degrees… unfortunately this is the reality on Earth… we are still in our moral infancy and there is no benefit in denying it. Better to recognise and work on it.
It is also sad to realise and reflect that there are so many other people who were killed (and are being killed) because of their race/ethnicity/nationality/skin colour/gender/sexual orientation/religious backgrounds around the globe. This is a “pandemic” as bad, if not worse, as any nasty virus. This is actually probably the worst virus ever: hate! Hate can kill us deeply inside and clearly outside. I am not a historian neither an expert on this subject, but from what I know and remember from school and reading things here and there, most wars and all the terrible things which happened in our history on Earth (and still happen) have hate as one of the main source. Slavery and the mistreating of many groups through the years (including Jewish, black Africans, Eastern European’s, gypsies… amongst others) KKK; apartheid etc. are examples of hate.
We need to focus on LOVE. I know it sounds a cliche and “cheesy”, nevertheless, this is the only way.“All we need is love” as Lennon & McCartney first said back in 1967 and this is true. Love is not only passion/sex (which by the way, this is also great… no need to be hypocritical neither prudish here)… love is beyond that. Love starts when we recognise the practical importance of applying the Golden Rule (i.e., the principle of treating others as we want to be treated) to our daily life. Love is respect.
I think when we start to focus on this, it becomes easier to ignore all the negativity and bad feelings. We can create an immunological collective system starting with our thoughts. I know it is easy to say, especially if we are not facing directly challenging situations, nevertheless, I think it can help the whole “psycho-sphere” on Earth if all of us, perhaps, start thinking about good things and not let our thoughts and emotions towards hate. I am aware it can be very difficult to deal with injustice and unfairness without getting angry or revolted in some cases, but it probably will not help if all of us tune in this frequency of thoughts. If all of us on Earth everyday when we wake up and/or before we go to sleep say, for instance: “love will remain on Earth” or other positive affirmations and try to keep our thoughts in line with love and positive thoughts and vibrations we can make a difference. Revolution(s) can also start with silence. Silence does not mean passive. Our minds are active 24hrs per day.
In these challenging times, we must not create more troubles and we have to avoid spreading hate either by thoughts or actions. Justice will happen! Let’s protest in the streets if we can and if we feel like, but peacefully and civilised, obeying the local laws of order. Violence is hate and hate is not the way. “Life is very short and there is no time for fussing and fighting my friend” as Lennon & McCartney used to say back in 1966… so yes “we can work it out… thus for honouring the killing of George Floyd and many other George Floyd’s, let’s focus on LOVE.”
